Workflow by Example: Automating Database Interactions via Deductions
نویسندگان
چکیده
Workflow and data integration engineering are complex and expensive activities. Adding a new workflow to a system often requires lengthy and repeated rounds of software engineering. The time and cost of this work creates an undesirable barrier between users and new system functionality. In the process of creating new workflow, developers frequently reproduce the queries and updates already present in other parts of the system. For example, many IT organizations have a formsbased implementation that allows a user to perform the steps of a workflow by hand. This form system can be leveraged in the creation of workflow procedures. In this paper we describe a system, Workflow By Example (WbE), where developers create workflows (or data integration queries) by demonstrating a workflow to the system. WbE observes the demonstration and automatically constructs a corresponding general workflow script. A performance evaluation of WbE shows that its learning algorithm scales well, and a user study show that if a batch update contains more than 8 form changes, WbE is more efficient to use than manual updates.

متن کاملAutomating Workflow for Data Processing in Grid Architecture
Workflows are at the heart of data processing solutions. Because of the poor performance and the license cost, traditional relational database management systems are no longer good choices for processing huge amount of data. Nowadays many data processing companies turn to the workflow grid to process huge amount of data. Currently, the generation of workflow is made by human being, which is ver...

This paper describes how DISCO, the data aggregator that supports the Neuroscience Information Framework (NIF), has been extended to play a central role in automating the complex workflow required to support and coordinate the NIF's data integration capabilities. The NIF is an NIH Neuroscience Blueprint initiative designed to help researchers access the wealth of data related to the neuroscienc...

A workflow management system (WFMS) supports the design, execution and monitoring of in general long-lasting business processes that typically involve multiple activities and multiple collaborating persons. WFMSs originate from the office automation efforts in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and from the imaging-based systems in the 1980s, both of which aimed at automating office paper processi...

The Discovery Bus, a multi-agent software system designed for automating aspects of Molecular Design, particularly expert decision making, is described. It extends approaches aimed at automating the processing of drug discovery information but where control remains with the human expert, to automating the " tacit knowledge " of the expert and best practice, which we model as a workflow, and exp...
